How are you defining strength?<br />
In my case ocular stretching releases overly constricted muscles. What doesit do in your case?</p>
<p>let us for a while forget about constricted muscles which is causing myopia. Why? Because I believe that scientists or all those who are doing researches on myopia (if they really doing them) can in my opinion easily &#8216;invent&#8217; a drop to weaken the EO muscles thus releasing any forcing on the eyeball. Anyone can certainly say that this &#8216;drop&#8217; will limit eye movement and I would respond that is exactly what glasses are doing right now.</p>
<p>Returning to the subject:</p>
<p>For me weakness is the loss in the ability to focus well and overtime with the help of glasses the loss became so exponential that you can&#8217;t see nothing without glasses. In its simplest form what you must do is to train the eyes to SEE better each and every day. I believe that all the muscles in the eyes are needed to see well (a complete harmony, and coordination of the muscles) and whether we have an elongated eyeball or not, proper training of the muscles will enable us to see more clearly. Teach your eyes how to see a little bit further away (not too much) move your eyes as much as possible and this will increase the strength and flexibility of your eyes.</p>
<p>When I first started I was unable to do some eye movement now I just have to move my eyes a little that my vision becomes better. You may say that I am releasing tension but I think that they are strong enough to put the images on my retina within a certain distance and of course in due time they will be able to clear the chart at 20 feet.</p>

20/20 in the office. At home (Snellen in dark corner) 20/30, and 20/25 When playing tennis: Extremely sharp vision<br />
(subjective &#8212; if you wish.) So if that is what you mean, then we both agree, and I agree THAT is subjective.</p>
<p>Refractive STATE, using a $50 trial lens kit? a PROTECTIVE +1/2 diopter.</p>
<p>Jean&gt; Me, I have been trying to put the card that is in my clear zone very close to me and the next card just above my clear zone. The shift from my clear to my blur zone should be quick and I should see the effect when I gaze at the<br />
card outside my clear zone, if there is no effect so I am doing it wrong.</p>
<p>Otis&gt; No, you are doing &#8220;right&#8221;. But I would also suggest this. Read the card THROUGH your +3 diopter lens. Push away until the card &#8220;just blurs&#8221;. After several of these &#8220;optical push-ups&#8221;, then look over the top of the +3&#8242;s at the<br />
brighly lit Snellen &#8212; and report objectively what you read (line &#8212; 1/2 the letters correctly). We trust your competence, so I call this OBJECTIVE.</p>

Reading the book &#8220;Improve Your Vision Without Glasses or Contact lenses&#8221; really opened my eyes to the short-sightedness (pardon the pun) of traditional optometry, and from there on I became very interested in the subject and managed to google sites like<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><a href="http://myopia.org/"style="color: #2a5db0;"   target="_blank" rel="nofollow">myopia.org</a>,<a href="http://i-see.org/"style="color: #2a5db0;"   target="_blank" rel="nofollow">i-see.org</a>, and<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><a href="http://seeing.org/"style="color: #2a5db0;"   target="_blank" rel="nofollow">seeing.org</a><span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>which is where I learned about plus lens therapy, the Bates method, Power Vision System, the Bershak Method etc.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p>I haven&#8217;t got any particular suggestions for webmasters on how to improve their sites. I guess it depends on what audience the sites are aimed at. Your site, I-see.org for example, does a great job at what it&#8217;s supposed to do, which is (presumably) being a large library of vision therapy resources, but it is probably not an ideal place to direct newbies to as there are a lot of links and technical articles covering many different aspects of vision therapy. Myopia.org is also a good site, but it is a little confrontational and scary. At the moment, I&#8217;m leaning towards directing people to<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><a href="http://preventmyopia.org/"style="color: #2a5db0;"   target="_blank" rel="nofollow">preventmyopia.org</a>, which seems to condense the most relevant information on myopia prevention down to a single page, and also has a newbie-friendly flash animation. I guess I&#8217;m just looking for any sites aimed at people with no prior experience of vision therapy or myopia prevention. Any further recommendations would be greatly appreciated.</span></p>

mine  which I have now read &#8211; to COMMENT on Olavi Pärssinen&#8217;s review &#8220;Pilaako lukeminen silmät?&#8221; (Will reading spoil your eyes?) (The Finnish Medical Journal<br />
6/2009):</p>
<p>Ophthalmologist, DM Kaisu Viikari has been speaking for the prevention of myopia for more than thirty years.</p>
<p>As we have personal experiences of getting rid of the minus lenses, we have been actively following the progress of myopia prevention in the world at large.</p>
<p>We are thoroughly familiar with all of Viikari&#8217;s three works; for example, in her most recent book &#8220;jotta totuus ei unohtuisi&#8221; (2004, 2006) she refers to an article that appeared in Duodecim (2003;119:2475) &#8220;Likitaittoisuuden esto<br />
kanoilla ja ihmisillä&#8221; (Prevention of myopia in hens and humans).</p>
<p>In this article, Professors of Ophthalmology T. Tervo and L. Laatikainen from Helsinki state that slowing down of myopia development with plus lenses, which the article that they were discussing referred to (Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci 2003:44:2818) was not a new idea. These are the very problems that Kaisu Viikari has been concerned about for more than three decades.</p>
<p>This is why we were surprised to find that among the 55 references of Olavi Pärssinen&#8217;s review that appeared in the Finnish Medical Journal 6/2009, (Pilaako lukeminen silmät?) he does not mention this Finnish article that essentially<br />
touches on the prevention of myopia.</p>
<p>It is difficult to think of a problem that would have such in-depth consequences for the wellbeing of mankind as increasing myopia – and in a wider sense, accommodation strain – in front of which, however, we do not need to throw our towel in and put our hands up.</p>

<p>What we MUST do &#8212; if we want a BETTER preventive future, is to identify those selfless persons who will PUSH us to learn how to prevent.</p>
<p>The purpose of i-see is to supply the critical preventive information (both Bates and Prentice) before that first minus is applied an in innocence &#8212; begin to wear it ALL THE TIME.</p>
<p>This is why Dr. Bates objected to. This is what I object to. The restraint of scientific information about prevention &#8212; and the need, indeed the legal requirement to supply it to you &#8212; before you have the first minus placed on your face.</p>
<p>We are all &#8220;victims&#8221; of this attitude.</p>

<p>For the past few weeks I have been experimenting with &#8220;straining&#8221; and&#8221;not straining&#8221; and one thing I now know for sure, if you&#8217;re looking<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>straight ahead, raising either your upper or lower eyelid, or raising<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>your eyebrows, is &#8220;straining.&#8221; I will go into detail about this later.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>In fact I think that&#8217;s about all you need to know about straining as<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br />
far as keeping good vision is concerned.</p>
<p>Well then I wondered if being &#8220;strain free&#8221; was incompatible with<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>smiling, since, after all, smiling is a kind of contraction of facial<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>muscles, and as I said &#8220;everybody knows&#8221; that you smile &#8220;with your<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>eyes&#8221; so then perhaps some eye lid or eyebrow movements were acceptable<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>in the context of a smile.</p>
<p>Well, after much experimentation and mirror-looking and people-watching, I have determined that a smile is nothing more than pulling up your cheeks and widening your mouth, with no other contractions of<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>facial muscles, especially not of the eyes. In fact if you contract<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>your eyelids in the slightest, raising your lower eyelid or raising or<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>lowering your upper eyelid, or moving your eyebrows, you will throw<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>your smile off. Wrinkling the nose and raising the upper lip (&#8220;baring<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>teeth&#8221;) also results in hideous effects. You will look angry, nervous,<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>&#8220;wild&#8221;&#8230; anything but calm, serene, and happy, which is what we want<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>a smile to express.</p>
<p>On the other hand, no matter how high I rasied my cheeks and no matter<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>how far I widened my mouth, the smile always looked normal &#8212; to me,<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>at least, despite the feelings of great tension in my face. But one<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>thing that I did find is that smiling this way made the brightest<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>sunny day completely tolerable to my eyes. It is probably for this<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>reason that a person who always smiles is said to bring &#8220;sunshine.&#8221;</p>
<p>I searched the internet to see if I could find any corroboration of my<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>idea of the proper way to smile. Searching for &#8220;how to smile&#8221; and<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>&#8220;perfect smile&#8221; and &#8220;anatomy of smiling&#8221; did not turn up anything<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>useful, just articles about whitening or straightening teeth and that<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>old &#8220;smile with your eyes&#8221; advice which I believe I have now<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>thoroughly debunked.</p>
<p>So relax your eyes, give the world a big smile, and let us know what<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>happens!</span></p>
