Australia, like the USA, has a Medicare system. Unlike America, however, Australia’s Medicare provides universal healthcare for citizens of all ages, not just those over age 65. It is funded by publicity that is operated by the Australian government authority called Medicare Australia. It is also available to visitors who’s countries have reciprocal agreements with Australia. The Medicare program is expected to cost the government around $18 billion in 2007-2008, representing over 40% of the Commonwealth’s total health care budget.
Australian Medicare promises citizens and permanent residents affordable medical treatment in public hospitals.
